Austria, 1956: sports eyewear maker Wilhelm Anger Werker founded CARRERA, inspired by the Carrera Panamerican auto race.

Like so many of the great sports/fashion brands, CARRERA originally focussed soley on sports performance orientated products, namely motorcycle goggles and ski masks.

In 1964 Wilhelm Anger inveted the super light-weight plastic 'Optyl' resulting in a reduction in allergic reactions, as well as improved fit (due to memory-based mechanism), elasticity and stability.

In the 70's CARRERA collabourated with aclaimed automobile designer Ferdinand Alexander to create the CARRERA/Porsche Design sunglasses collection.

In the 80's CARRERA's name really came into it's own when it repeatedly appeared as one of the main sponsers of major sporting events such as Formula 1 racing, America's Cup and the Winter Olympics.

Today - due to it's effortless ability to cross the bridge between sports functionality and cool youth-orientated trends - the brand is as championed by revered sporting stars as it is celebrity fashionistas.

Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, Kanye West and Rihanna make up some of the brands more influential fans.
