‘Blinding’ Winter Sun

I’ve just been having a really interesting conversation with a patient in the store, and I thought it was something worth sharing…

He’s a long standing patient who was in store for his regular eye test and was getting some fab new spectacles. Once we’d sorted this, I asked what prescription sunglasses he was currently using; “Oh I don’t need them now, I’ll come back in the summer for them”, but I had to question, is this right?

For me, winter is the most important time for good quality sunglasses, especially if you’re a driver. These bright and crisp winter days that we all love, are beautiful but the sun never gets very high in the sky, meaning it’s often shining right in your eyes. Anyone who has driven to Manchester for the day this time of year will know the sun is right in front of you, in your eye’s all the way there in the morning, and the same all the way back in the afternoon.

This is why, good quality sunglasses are just as important in winter, as they are in summer.

So what do I mean by good quality? What would I recommend? Here are a few things to look out for:

UV Protection

Many cheap sunglasses can just have coloured lenses in. These may look great, but may not actually protect your eyes from harmful UV rays.

Polarization

Polarized lenses cut out glare, or reflected light. This means when the sun is low and reflects off the road or other cars, it can really make it difficult to see. Polarized lenses will help with this by cutting out that reflected light.

High quality lenses

low quality plastic used in cheap sunglasses can have lots of imperfections in, this can cause stress and fatigue to your eyes when looking through them.

Prescription… if you need it

It’s amazing how many people who wear prescription glasses don’t have prescription sunglasses! Single vision or multi focal, low or high prescription, there are options for everyone.

We have just taken on some new collections of prescription ready sunglasses this year; these start from £99 complete with UV prescription lenses and frames, or £149 complete with Polarized prescription lens and frames.

I actually noticed this one while scrolling through comments under a UK YouTube video where people were sharing what they use in their free time. Someone mentioned betzino, so I decided to give it a try. The layout seemed simple enough right away, which I liked. I spent some time exploring and didn’t feel rushed or overwhelmed. Everything loaded without issues, and it worked fine on my older laptop, which isn’t always the case with similar platforms.

Jumping in, UK user here. I discovered this bingo-style platform after overhearing someone talk about it on the train. Later that day I gave it a try out of curiosity. The design felt relaxed, not too flashy, which made it easy to follow along. While browsing, I ended up opening HeySpin Casino from a discussion thread. Played a few rounds without pressure and even managed a small win that made the session feel worthwhile.

The detailed commentary on Simba Slots Casino regarding the "gold standard" of retro-themed interfaces is a fantastic read for anyone interested in nostalgic design trends. Their analysis of how classic symbols are re-engineered for high-definition mobile screens perfectly explains why these aesthetics still dominate the UK market. It has given me a fresh perspective on balancing heritage and innovation here in Glasgow.

Hey all! UK player here. I actually found this while chatting in an online gaming group—someone dropped a screenshot of their winnings. That got my attention, so I tried maria casino. The variety kept me interested, and I liked switching between games without feeling stuck. I didn’t win big at first, but later on things picked up and I ended the session feeling pretty good about it.
